Full Opening of School Facilities to Boost Citizen Access
Playgrounds and Gymnasiums to Open, Maintenance Costs Supported
On November 7, Guri City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyunghyun) announced that it had signed the "Guri City School Facility Opening Activation Business Agreement" with the Guri Namyangju Office of Education (Superintendent Seo Eunkyung), the Guri City Sports Council (Chairman Yoon Jaekeun), and 32 elementary, middle, and high schools in the city.
This agreement significantly expands participation from the previous 11 schools to all 32 schools in the city, and as a result, citizens are expected to have greater opportunities to use school facilities.
According to the agreement, schools will open their playgrounds and gymnasiums to the public as long as it does not interfere with student educational activities, while Guri City will provide support for public utility fees and maintenance costs to schools that open their facilities to local residents.
Additionally, the Guri Namyangju Office of Education will handle civil complaints and provide support to schools during the opening process. The Guri City Sports Council will connect local sports clubs with school facility use and cooperate in creating a stable usage environment, including designating facility managers.
