AI Semiconductor Supercycle Accelerates... Alphachips Bets on SoC Design Expertise
As demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) surges, the semiconductor market has entered a supercycle phase, rapidly shifting the core of the semiconductor value chain from "manufacturing process" to "design." Alphachips, a domestic official DSP (Design Solution Partner) of Samsung Foundry, is expected to be a major beneficiary of this change. Leveraging its high-performance, low-power System on Chip (SoC) design capabilities, the company is strengthening its efforts to target the AI and HPC-specific semiconductor markets.
According to global market research firm MarketsandMarkets, the global AI semiconductor (chip) market is projected to grow from $166.9 billion (approximately 237 trillion won) in 2025 at a compound annual growth rate of 24.4%, reaching $311.6 billion (approximately 442 trillion won) by 2029. As competition in advanced process technology reaches its limits, design optimization capabilities are emerging as the key factor determining semiconductor efficiency. Consequently, demand is rising for specialized design firms with the ability to optimize PPAT.
Alphachips is a system semiconductor design specialist comprised of a group of SoC design experts with over 20 years of experience. The company has demonstrated its technical prowess by handling the entire design process for major semiconductor clients, from product planning to just before mass production. Among domestic DSPs, Alphachips holds the highest number of full turnkey (End-to-End Design) development records.
The company's strength lies in its proprietary design automation platform, "ADEON™." ADEON™ provides an environment that maximizes design efficiency by simultaneously managing project turnaround time (TAT) and quality of service (QoS). Through this, Alphachips has reduced SoC design periods by approximately 25% compared to previous methods, earning high trust from fabless companies for whom product launch speed is critical.
PPAT optimization is crucial for direct cost reduction and yield improvement in AI chip design, which requires complex computations. Alphachips’ SoC PPAT optimization technology has been proven through cases where it achieved 10% power reduction, 28% performance improvement, and 8% area reduction compared to NPUs designed by typical fabless companies.
Although technology continues to advance, fabless companies face limitations in independently responding to the evolving process environment. As a result, Alphachips’ ADEON™ platform and PPAT optimization technologies have become essential solutions for enhancing design efficiency among small and medium-sized fabless companies. This structure allows the company to strengthen long-term customer lock-in effects and establish a stable foundation for repeat orders.
Alphachips is working to improve profitability and expand revenue stability by leveraging its expertise in AI, HPC, and automotive chip design. The company is currently engaged in a variety of SoC projects based on Arm and RISC-V (open-source instruction set architecture), including AI edge devices, automotive ICs, and 5G communication modems.
In particular, as its client GCT Semiconductor’s 8-nanometer (nm) 5G communication modem is set to enter mass production soon, the visibility of related sales is expected to increase.
