Huh Seh-hong, President of GS Caltex, stated, "AI is not just a technology, but a new colleague that transforms the way we think and work."
President Huh made these remarks at the "Digital Transformation Day (DX Day)" event held at GS Tower in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on October 31. At the 3rd DX Day, which was themed "Changing Ways of Working and Artificial Intelligence (AI)," GS Caltex introduced its intelligence-driven organizational transformation strategy, "DAX (Digital·AI Transformation)."

Lee Eunju, Head of the DAX Center at GS Caltex, said, "We aim to become the company that uses AI most effectively," adding, "We are digitalizing the field knowledge and data accumulated over 67 years and combining them with AI to create a competitive edge."
On this day, Lee introduced the in-house generative AI platform "AI-Yu (AI油)," explaining, "We have enabled the secure and simultaneous use of various language models within the company network." This platform supports each division, including procurement, recruitment, and operations, in creating and utilizing their own AI assistants. In the recruitment process, it also provides a function that automatically summarizes applicant information for interviewers.
The AI transformation is also progressing rapidly in the field. Kang Jaemin, Head of the Digital Innovation Team at the Yeosu Plant, said, "In the past, even when external solutions were introduced, they often failed because they did not fit the field. Now, the approach has changed so that field experts take the lead and developers provide support."
The Yeosu Plant is implementing DAX in five areas: production planning optimization, process operation efficiency, integrated equipment management, safety·environment·health, and carbon emissions reduction. Over 180 AI-based CCTV cameras are in operation, automatically detecting abnormal situations within protected zones and issuing alerts. The "Safety AI Agent" has become the most frequently used program among field workers.
In addition, technologies such as furnace operation optimization using virtual sensors, virtual reality (VR) safety training, and digital twin-based process monitoring have been introduced. Kang stated, "So far, more than 200 AI use cases have been completed, and we expect to surpass 300 cases within this year."

Ming Byungkwan, Head of the Supply & Trading (S&T) Division, said, "AI automatically detects risky phrases in crude oil trading contracts and checks international sanction lists daily to reduce risks," adding, "AI is not just an assistant but serves as a guardian of our work."
Kim Jonghyun, Head of the Low Carbon Technology Team, introduced the energy integrated control and optimization system, which is set to begin operation at the end of the year. The system uses AI to predict energy consumption, analyze loss factors, and suggest ways to reduce them. Kim explained, "With AI, we can check efficiency indicators for each process in real time, which allows us to respond more quickly compared to the previous manual aggregation."
