During the event, they defined the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit as a 'stellar moment' for peace on the Korean Peninsula and called for the holding of a North Korea-United States summit.
This press conference was organized in deep agreement with a recent message from Minister of Unification Chung Dongyoung, who appealed, "Do not miss the opportunity to end the Korean War and bring peace." The event aimed to continue the National Assembly's commitment to establishing peace.
The members of the Fair Society Forum emphasized, "Now, as the APEC Summit is being held, is the 'stellar moment' for the Korean Peninsula," and stressed, "We must not miss this golden opportunity to end the war that was halted 72 years ago." They asserted that this is the 'golden time' to end the armistice on the Korean Peninsula and achieve lasting peace.
In particular, they referenced President Donald Trump's comment that he would meet Chairman Kim Jong Un "if he wants to," and appealed to the leaders of North Korea and the United States to "demonstrate through action the conviction to be not the one who starts a war, but the one who ends it." They made it clear that, while gunfire has ceased, the war has not truly ended, and that genuine peace can only be achieved through action, not mere declarations.
The forum members further asserted, "It does not matter whether the North Korea-United States summit is held at Panmunjom or in Pyongyang. What matters more than the location is the decision and the courageous step forward." They stated that President Trump meeting Chairman Kim Jong Un to end the Korean War and declare peace would truly "Make America Great Again" and fulfill the historic mandate of peace on the Korean Peninsula, a responsibility shared by all humanity. They also expressed hope that the moment the two leaders join hands, the Korean Peninsula will be reborn as a land of peace.
In his opening remarks before the press conference, Assemblyman Min said, "Since last summer, experts on North Korea-United States relations have told me that President Trump might visit North Korea during his APEC trip," and emphasized, "The decision will be made by President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un, but the beneficiaries will be humanity and the people of both North and South Korea."
