Kim Dong-kwan Pays Courtesy Visit to Romanian Prime Minister... On-Site Support for Redback Project
Visit to Romania with Special Delegation
Competing for 4 Trillion Won IFV Project
Kim Dong-kwan, Vice Chairman of Hanwha Group, has embarked on a defense sales mission targeting Eastern Europe.
According to the business community on October 22, Vice Chairman Kim, along with the "Special Delegation for Strategic Economic Cooperation" led by Kang Hoon-sik, Chief Presidential Secretary, paid a courtesy visit to Romanian Prime Minister Ion-Marcel Ciolacu in Bucharest on October 21 (local time). It is reported that he visited to provide on-site support for the Romanian government's ongoing infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) procurement project worth approximately 4 trillion won.
Romania is pursuing a project to introduce tracked IFVs worth up to 3 billion euros (about 4.9 trillion won) to replace its aging Soviet-era armored vehicles. Hanwha Aerospace is participating in the bid for this project, competing with Germany's Rheinmetall, the United Kingdom's BAE Systems, and the United States' General Dynamics European Land Systems.
Last year, Hanwha Aerospace signed an export contract with Romania worth about 1.4 trillion won, which included 54 K9 self-propelled howitzers and 36 K10 ammunition resupply vehicles. Vice Chairman Kim's current visit is seen as an extension of this ongoing cooperation and an effort to participate in new projects.
