Gwangjin District Operates 1,119 Emergency Bells Throughout the Area
360 Emergency Bells Installed in Public Restrooms
"Immediate Connection at the Press of a Button"
On October 22, the Gwangjin District Office in Seoul (headed by District Mayor Kim Kyungho) announced that it is operating 1,119 emergency bells installed throughout the district to strengthen the safety of residents in their daily lives.
The emergency bell is a device that allows people to request help immediately by pressing a button in case of a crime or emergency. When the button is pressed, real-time voice communication is established with an operator at the integrated closed-circuit television (CCTV) control center. At the same time, live footage from the scene is automatically displayed on the monitor, enabling the police to recognize the emergency and respond immediately.
Currently, a total of 1,119 emergency bells are in operation across the district, including 730 for crime prevention in residential areas, 163 in parks, 147 in child protection zones, and 79 for facility security. This year, 17 additional emergency bells were installed, further strengthening the crime prevention network.
In particular, 360 emergency bells have been installed in public restrooms. The district has established an emergency response system in cooperation with local police substations at more than 40 public restrooms, ensuring immediate action in the event of an emergency.
