Sejong City to Offer Free Safety Inspections for Aging Homes Over 30 Years Old
Safety Inspection Applications Accepted Until November 21
On October 20, the Sejong City government announced that it is accepting applications for safety inspections of small, aging houses that were completed more than 30 years ago.
Small, aging houses are excluded from regular inspections under the Building Management Act and related regulations. For this reason, since 2022, the city has been conducting safety inspections of small, aging houses within its jurisdiction. The inspection targets are houses with two floors or fewer and a total floor area of 500 square meters or less, completed before 1995.
The inspection items include: ▲ cracks and deformation in the main structural components of the house ▲ differential settlement ▲ the safety status of surrounding retaining walls, fences, and embankments. The inspection is provided free of charge. Based on the inspection results, the city will provide guidance on necessary measures for buildings that require maintenance, such as repairs or reinforcement, aiming to ensure thorough safety management of aging houses.
Owners or managers of buildings who wish to have a safety inspection can visit the Regional Building Safety Center at the Public Building Safety Office from October 20 to November 21. For more details regarding the application process for safety inspections, inquiries can be made to the Regional Building Safety Center at the Public Building Safety Office.

Kim Joungho, Director of the Public Building Safety Office, stated, "The safety management of small, aging buildings that are excluded from mandatory legal inspections is effectively left solely to the owners, which increases the risk. Through these inspections, we will address blind spots in safety management and prevent accidents, making every effort to create a pleasant and safe residential environment."
