Geumcheon District Provides Meal Cards for Children at Risk of Missing Meals During Chuseok
“Neighborhood Happiness Card” Provided to 1,330 Children
Geumcheon District in Seoul (District Mayor Yoo Seonghun) will provide the “Geumcheon-style Neighborhood Happiness Card” to children at risk of missing meals during Chuseok. The “Neighborhood Happiness Card” program is Geumcheon District’s flagship child welfare policy, designed to ensure children have meals and can enjoy a warm holiday during the festive period.
Every year, prepaid meal cards are distributed during Lunar New Year and Chuseok to support children who may go without meals. This year, as of September, a total of 1,330 children are eligible for support, including those using the child meal card (Dream Tree Card), children receiving food assistance, and those attending local community child centers. Children who already have the card can use the recharged amount immediately without any additional application process, while new recipients or those who have lost their card can easily receive a new one at their local community center.
The support amount is 30,000 won per child, and the card can be freely used at approximately 2,500 general restaurants within Geumcheon District. The list of participating restaurants can be found on the “Geumcheon News” section of the district’s official website. The recharged amount can be used until December 31, 2025, and any unused balance will expire after this date. Geumcheon District was the first among Seoul’s autonomous districts to launch a holiday meal card support program for children during Chuseok in 2021. Since then, the program has been continuously implemented twice a year, during Lunar New Year and Chuseok.
