He will serve as co-chair alongside Hwi Young Choi, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This marks the first time a music industry figure has assumed a ministerial-level position.
For security reasons, the specific time and location of the launch ceremony will not be disclosed in advance. The event will be attended by President Lee Jaemyung, senior officials from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Blue House, as well as major figures from the popular culture sector. The official guest list includes 270 people, and some members of the general public will also be present through an application process.
The government has designed this event as a "festival-style" celebration. K-pop groups Stray Kids and LE SSERAFIM will perform congratulatory stages. The launch ceremony will serve as a showcase for the vision of Korean popular culture. On September 24, President Lee Jaemyung wrote on Facebook, "Our proud popular culture, including K-pop, K-dramas, K-movies, and K-games, will stand at the center of the global stage," and urged people to "celebrate the moment when a new era of K-culture unfolds."
Having long worked as both a producer and an executive with experience in the global market, Jinyoung Park is now stepping to the forefront of policy. Ahead of the launch, he stated, "I will connect the support measures I found necessary in the field with policy," and added, "I will work to ensure that junior artists have more opportunities."
The Popular Culture Exchange Committee is the implementing body for the "300 Trillion Won K-Culture Era" vision put forth by the Lee Jaemyung administration. Established under the direct authority of the president, it aims to serve as a comprehensive control tower encompassing all genres, including K-pop, dramas, films, and games. Its core tasks are to strengthen cooperation between policy and industry by involving both private experts and government ministries, and to expand global exchange.
This launch is not merely the creation of a new organization, but signals an intention to foster popular culture as a national strategy. President Lee stated, "The Popular Culture Exchange Committee was established to strengthen public-private cooperation and expand networks across various fields with leaders from the cultural industry," adding, "I am confident that it will solidify the foundation of the cultural industry and make a significant contribution to establishing Korea as a true global cultural powerhouse."
