On September 29, the People Power Party appointed Assemblyman Cho Seungwhan as the new head of its think tank, the Yeouido Institute, and Assemblywoman Seo Jiyeong as the head of the party’s Public Relations Headquarters. Both lawmakers are first-term representatives whose constituencies are in Busan, which is considered one of the most hotly contested battlegrounds in next year’s local elections.

View original imageThe People Power Party announced in a press release on the same day that Assemblyman Cho and Assemblywoman Seo would take up the roles of Yeouido Institute Director and Head of Public Relations, respectively.
Assemblyman Cho, a first-term lawmaker, represents the Jung-gu and Yeongdo-gu districts of Busan. It is the first time since Assemblyman Kim Sungwon in 2023 that a sitting lawmaker has been appointed as head of the Yeouido Institute. Assemblyman Cho is an expert in maritime and fisheries affairs, having previously served as Minister of Oceans and Fisheries and as Director of the Busan Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries.
Assemblywoman Seo, who represents the Dongnae-gu district of Busan, has previously served as Deputy Secretary General for Strategic Planning, Deputy Secretary General for Organization, and as a party spokesperson. She is recognized as a traditional party insider who has held key positions within the party secretariat and is regarded as an expert in party strategy.

The party also appointed Lee Hosun, a professor at Kookmin University Law School, as Chair of the Party Affairs Audit Committee; Assemblyman Kim Sanghoon as Chair of the Special Committee on Stock and Digital Asset Value-Up; and Supreme Council Member Kim Minsu as Chair of the Special Committee on Public Communication.
