Yeongwol County Selected for 'Public Study Cafe' Self-Directed Learning Center Competition
Yeongwol County in Gangwon Province (Governor Choi Myungseo) and the Yeongwol Office of Education (Superintendent Shin Donghoon) announced on September 3 that they have been selected for the Ministry of Education's public competition to establish a 'public study cafe' self-directed learning center.
This competition was launched by the Ministry of Education as a nationwide project to create spaces where students can study independently without relying on private education.
Yeongwol County and the Yeongwol Office of Education decided to pursue the project in connection with the local education development special zone, aiming to provide a foundation for students in the region to engage in self-directed learning without limitations of time or space.
The county plans to utilize the Youth Dream Center, a career and college counseling center, to create study rooms for students who lack access to learning spaces outside of school and to support an environment where self-directed learning can take place freely. The Office of Education intends to operate practical programs to enhance students' academic achievement, such as running learning coordinators.
Additionally, the Yeongwol Career and College Counseling Center successfully ran the 'Kkumteul Meokgong' self-directed learning support project twice, in April and July, with more than 1,200 children from the region participating.

Choi Myungseo, Governor of Yeongwol County, stated, "With our selection for this public project, the county will operate the self-directed learning center as a sustainable education development model in collaboration with the local community as an education development special zone," adding, "We will continue to focus on creating a student-centered learning environment and providing tailored learning support by linking with various future projects."
