On August 18, Yongin City announced that 464 people took part in the "Citizen Survival Swimming Education" program, which was held from July 21 to August 14 to prevent summer water safety accidents and to enhance survival skills in emergency situations.

This program was the only one of its kind among the 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province, made possible by securing a budget for citizen safety education across life stages. The program was carried out in collaboration with the Yongin Youth Future Foundation, Yongin Urban Corporation, and three district welfare centers for people with disabilities, and was held a total of 32 times.

Notably, the program included participation from youth in multi-child families and individuals with disabilities. At the Giheung-gu Welfare Center for the Disabled, sessions were held where children with disabilities and their guardians participated together.

The curriculum covered floating for survival, methods for maintaining body temperature, how to wear a life jacket, how to use flotation devices, guidelines for responding to accidents in valleys, on boats, and on aircraft, as well as basic first aid practice.

The city explained that in a satisfaction survey, more than 99% of participants expressed satisfaction with the program, and over 97% indicated a willingness to participate again.

Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "Although there are limitations in securing training facilities, we will strive to ensure that more citizens can receive survival swimming education at public swimming pools that will be built in the future."
