Geobukseon and Panokseon Models Crafted at One-Thirtieth Scale
Exhibition of Geobukseon and Panokseon Models
at Gohado Station of Mokpo Marine Cable Car
The National Research Institute of Maritime Heritage announced on July 30 that it will unveil models of the Geobukseon (Turtle Ship) and Panokseon at the Gohado station of the Mokpo Marine Cable Car starting July 31.
The Geobukseon and Panokseon were the main warships used by the naval forces during the Imjin War. In particular, the Panokseon is known as a vessel with a flat deck covered by planks set upright, which became the foundation for the construction of the Geobukseon.
The displayed models have been crafted at one-thirtieth the size of the original ships. An official from the institute stated, "Through these meticulously crafted model ships, which have been produced based on historical verification, visitors will be able to gain a three-dimensional understanding of the Joseon Dynasty's maritime defense system, ship structures, and the strategic thinking of the Joseon navy."

The institute also plans to pursue restoration and further research on the Geobukseon and Panokseon in the future. Lee Eunseok, director of the National Research Institute of Maritime Heritage, stated at the Joseon Tongsinsa Ship reenactment event held in Osaka, Japan, in May, "We plan to restore all of them and set sail."
