Corio Generation, a UK-based global offshore wind power development company, announced on June 10 that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Korea Energy Comprehensive Technology (KLEM) to explore cooperation in offshore wind power operation and maintenance (O&M).

The MOU signing ceremony, held at the headquarters of Korea Energy Comprehensive Technology, was attended by Choi Woojin, General Manager of Corio Generation Korea, Bu Junghwan, CEO of Korea Energy Comprehensive Technology, and other officials from both companies.

Through this agreement, the two companies agreed to preliminarily review opportunities for cooperation in the field of offshore wind power O&M, leveraging their respective expertise and experience, and to enhance their practical understanding of the sector.

Corio is currently developing a fixed-bottom offshore wind power project in the Dadaepo area of Saha-gu, Busan, in collaboration with domestic power generation companies, and is working on design with local turbine manufacturers and construction firms. Corio explained, "We are pursuing localization at every stage of the project as a core objective, and are working with regional power generation companies on long-term operation plans. We are also seeking substantial collaboration opportunities with influential domestic companies such as Korea Energy Comprehensive Technology."

Korea Energy Comprehensive Technology, established in 2010, is a renewable energy company that provides comprehensive consulting, onshore and offshore wind turbine installation and maintenance, Balance of Plant (BOP) inspection and maintenance, and supply and operation of offshore wind O&M vessels, among other services.

Through this MOU, Corio plans to leverage its global business experience and resources to support all aspects of the project, from development to operation and management. Korea Energy Comprehensive Technology plans to participate in the O&M of the Dadaepo offshore wind project and will review various possibilities for technical support, including replacement of major wind turbine components and maintenance of BOP facilities.

In addition, Korea Energy Comprehensive Technology plans to prioritize the recruitment of local talent and strengthen connections with regional partner companies when carrying out O&M in the Busan area, starting with its participation in the Dadaepo offshore wind project.

Bu Junghwan, CEO of Korea Energy Comprehensive Technology, stated, "Through various cooperation opportunities, including the Dadaepo offshore wind project, we will actively contribute to technology internalization and localization, and provide quality jobs for the younger generation in the region."

Choi Woojin, General Manager of Corio Generation Korea, said, "Through this cooperation, we expect to create synergy in the offshore wind O&M sector and promote the development of the domestic offshore wind market and supply chain."
