Hwaseong City Holds "Hwaseong's Stations: Memories Encountered Through Citizen Records" Exhibition
Exhibition of Photos, Videos, and Interviews Cherished by Citizens
Held Until the 20th in City Hall Lobby, Eocheon, Byeongjeom, and Dongtan Stations
Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province is holding a citizen-participatory archival exhibition titled "Hwaseong's Stations: Memories Encountered Through Citizen Records" from June 9 to June 20 in the main lobby of City Hall and at major train stations.
This exhibition marks the inaugural year of the city's special status and features a reorganization of various memories and materials related to Eocheon Station, Byeongjeom Station, and Dongtan Station. These were collected last year by the Citizen Record Team, who met directly with local residents.
The exhibition showcases a total of 306 items, including 275 photographs, 23 oral histories, 1 video, and 7 documents. The exhibition space is divided by station, highlighting the history and changes of each station, the lives of residents who have lived around the stations, changes in the neighborhoods surrounding the stations, and the future of the stations as envisioned by citizens.
The exhibition vividly conveys the city's growth and the everyday scenery and sentiments surrounding each station, focusing on old photographs kept by citizens, everyday objects, personal records, and oral interviews.
A city official stated, "This exhibition is significant because it goes beyond simply viewing records; it demonstrates how individual memories cherished by citizens can be expanded into public history through donation and sharing."
In addition to the main exhibition in the City Hall lobby, the city is also holding related exhibitions at the three major stations?Eocheon Station, Byeongjeom Station, and Dongtan Station?so that citizens can easily view them in everyday spaces.

Hwaseong Mayor Jeong Myeonggeun said, "This exhibition is special in that citizens take the lead in bringing out their own records, which are then expanded into collective memories. A citizen archive exhibition that records and shares the city's history from the perspective of citizens, rather than experts, will form the foundation for empathy and participation that the city seeks to build."
