In particular, a large-scale march of 1,894 participants, reenacting the Donghak Peasant Army, has been prepared to bring the event even closer to the community.
The highlight of the festival is undoubtedly the "1894 March." In this symbolic reenactment of the Donghak Peasant Army's advance from Jeongeup to the rest of the country, all participants will dress as peasant soldiers and march through downtown Jeongeup, vividly conveying the spirit of that day.
The victory at the Hwangtohyeon Battle marks the day when the leadership of the Donghak Peasant Army, for the first time, achieved a major victory against government forces through organized resistance. This day holds immense symbolic value as a critical turning point in the revolution, when the strategies and forces of the Donghak Peasant Revolution were united. The upcoming memorial ceremony is expected to serve as an occasion to reflect on this historical significance.
In addition, participants from the World Revolutionary Cities Solidarity Conference and Donghak Peasant Revolution memorial organizations from across the country will join to share and honor the spirit and values of the Donghak Peasant Army. This will lay the groundwork for the globalization and national expansion of the memorial ceremony.
There will also be a procession commemorating the 500th anniversary of the German Peasants' War, further strengthening ties with the city of Muehlhausen. Furthermore, as the memorial ceremony, which had previously been held at the memorial park, will now take place in the heart of downtown Jeongeup, it will ensure greater citizen participation and accessibility.
An official from Jeongeup City stated, "We will bring the memorial ceremony into the daily lives of citizens, turning it into an event that people can see, walk, and experience firsthand."
