Mokpo Coast Guard Plays Key Role as Protector of Lives During May Golden Holiday
10 Emergency Patients from Island Regions
Urgently Transported to the Mainland
During the golden holiday period from May 1 to May 6, Mokpo Coast Guard Station (headed by Chae Sujun) successfully fulfilled its role as a protector of citizens' lives by transporting 10 emergency patients from island regions to the mainland.
According to the Mokpo Coast Guard on May 7, on May 3, they urgently transported a man in his 80s residing in Heuksan-myeon, Shinan County, to the mainland due to breathing difficulties and a drop in oxygen saturation, which put him at risk of cardiac arrest. At the time, air transport such as doctor helicopters was unavailable, so the Coast Guard used a patrol vessel to break through high swells and complete the transfer.

In total, the Coast Guard carried out 10 emergency patient transport missions during the holiday period.
A Mokpo Coast Guard official stated, "Island regions have weak medical infrastructure and a high elderly population, making the Coast Guard's role essential." The official added, "We will continue to faithfully serve as a vital bridge connecting island villages and the mainland."
