Trump "Will Personally Attend Tariff Negotiations with Japan"
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he will personally attend the high-level tariff negotiations between the United States and Japan held on the 16th (local time).
On the morning of the same day, President Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, stating, "Japan is coming to the U.S. today to negotiate tariffs, military support costs, and 'trade fairness,'" and added, "I will attend the meeting together with the Secretary of the Treasury and the Secretary of Commerce." He also said, "I hope something good (great!) comes out for both Japan and the U.S.!"

The tariff ministers of the United States and Japan will begin full-scale negotiations in the U.S. on the day. On the U.S. side, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Vestent and U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Jamison Greer are expected to attend, while on the Japanese side, Economic Revitalization Minister Akazawa Ryosei is expected to participate. Previously, the reciprocal tariff rate imposed by the U.S. on Japan was 24%.
