The non-profit organization Construction Industry Vision Forum announced on the 8th that it will hold a seminar titled "Unified Germany's National Land Development and the Korean Peninsula's National Land Strategy" on the 17th at the Construction Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The seminar is hosted by the Korea Future Forum and sponsored by HanmiGlobal.
The 30 years since Germany's unification provide practical lessons for the Korean Peninsula. The forum stated, "With increasing uncertainty in the international situation due to the US-China hegemonic competition, the Russia-Ukraine war, and North Korea's nuclear and missile threats, sudden unification of North and South Korea must be prepared for among various scenarios, as unprepared unification could cause great chaos and astronomical costs."
This seminar will present directions for establishing a national land strategy for the Korean Peninsula based on the actual case of German unification.
The seminar will begin with an opening address by Kang Ho-in, co-representative of the forum, and congratulatory remarks by Kim Jong-hoon, chairman of HanmiGlobal and director of the forum, followed by keynote presentations and panel discussions.
Senior Research Fellow Lee Sang-jun of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements will explain key decisions and legal and institutional changes during German unification, such as currency integration, land ownership adjustments, and capital relocation. Associate Research Fellow Kim Min-a will address national land development tasks including population movement, investment attraction, and environmental preservation.
The panel discussion will be chaired by former Blue House Senior Secretary for Foreign Affairs and National Security Cheon Young-woo. Participants include Son Hong-il, director of the German Political Culture Research Institute; Kim Young-chan, former head of the Bank of Korea Frankfurt office; Park Jin-chul, president of the Architectural Institute of Korea; and Kim Seong-ryeol, professor at Busan University of Foreign Studies (a defector from North Korea). A free discussion will follow the seminar.
Kwon Oh-kyung, secretary general of the Construction Industry Vision Forum, said, "This seminar will serve as a 'unification preparation textbook' applicable not only to the construction industry but to all industries. We hope experts from various fields preparing for unification, construction professionals, and students interested in unification and the construction industry will attend."
