Support for Work-Life Balance... First Introduced in Gwangju
Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju has introduced a new allowance for substitute work during parental leave as a measure to address the low birth rate crisis. This is the first time such a system has been implemented in Gwangju.
According to Gwangsan-gu on the 27th, this allowance is a system in which a civil servant who substitutes for a colleague using parental leave (for children under the age of 8) or for a pregnant employee using more than 10 hours of maternity protection time per month receives 50,000 KRW per month. Starting this month, it will be implemented first for civil servants handling civil petitions, and then expanded to all employees.
District Mayor Park Byungkyu said, "We will create an organizational culture where parental leave can be freely used and build an environment that supports work-life balance."
