Jindo County Signs MOU for Newborn Health Insurance Support Program
Monthly Insurance Premium of 25,000 KRW Provided for Five Years
Jindo County, South Jeolla Province (Governor Kim Heesu) announced on the 5th that it recently signed a business agreement for the "2025 Jindo County Newborn Health Insurance Support Project" to foster a pro-birth atmosphere and reduce the financial burden of child-rearing.
The eligibility for the newborn health insurance covers children born on or after January 1, 2025, to families residing in Jindo County with registered residency as of the birth date. After enrollment, newborns are covered for high-cost treatments such as cancer, fractures, various diseases, and accidents until the age of 10. Jindo County will support the monthly insurance premium of 25,000 KRW for a period of five years.

View original imageAs of last year, health insurance premiums were provided for 1,004 children, and the public health center staff are processing the enrollment procedures based on birth registration records.
Amidst changes in the healthcare environment, the county is shifting its focus from treatment-centered policies to health management, including disease prevention and early detection, in order to further enhance the quality of life for residents and reduce medical expenses.
In particular, by linking health, medical, and welfare projects tailored to regional characteristics, the county strives to provide practical and satisfactory services to residents, supporting a happy life that encompasses physical, mental, and social health.
Governor Kim Heesu emphasized, "Through the newborn health insurance support project, we expect to alleviate the economic burden of child-rearing. We will continue to do our utmost to create a birth- and child-rearing-friendly environment and make Jindo County a great place to have and raise children."
