'Captain America' Generation Change... "A Journey Different from Rogers"
Wilson Steps Up from 'Falcon' to the Second 'Captain America'
Lead Actor Mackie Says, "Guiding the Future Direction of the MCU"
"You will meet a new era of Captain America."
Anthony Mackie, the actor who has taken on a central role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU, the superhero universe produced by Marvel Studios), announced the full-scale generational shift. At the press conference for the movie Captain America: Brave New World held via video call on the 5th, he stated, "Sam Wilson embarks on a completely different journey from Steve Rogers and defines his own Captain America."
Wilson, portrayed by Mackie, has appeared as 'Falcon' in previous Marvel Studios works. He was highlighted mainly as a supporting ally in the battles of the original Captain America, Rogers (Chris Evans). In this film, he inherits the shield symbolizing Captain America from Rogers. Mackie said, "He is a character who fully embodies the qualities of Captain America such as a sense of justice, humanity, and passion," adding, "Because he is prepared, I believe he is suitable to point the future direction of Captain America and the Marvel Cinematic Universe." He further added, "It is an honor to play such a character."
Captain America: Brave New World, which features Wilson taking center stage for the first time, is an action blockbuster about Wilson uncovering the existence and motives of an evil conspiracy aiming to dominate the world amid an international incident. Wilson’s stance in confronting villains is quite different from Rogers. Although he lacks superhuman strength, he is aggressive and humorous.

Mackie said, "Since he fights with the mindset that the best defense is a good offense, his movements are often exaggerated," adding, "The functions of the suit he wears are maximized to provide a rich visual experience." Director Julius Onah, who was present, explained the background of adding humor, saying, "We tried hard to convey the theme that everyone has some good in them, not only in the drama but also in the action." He said, "I hope Sam Wilson resonates with many viewers through his righteousness, honesty, and integrity."
