Schedule Includes Visits to Anti-Japanese Historical Sites
Speaker of the National Assembly Woo Won-shik will make an official visit to China for five days and four nights. Speaker Woo will also attend the opening ceremony of the 2025 Harbin Winter Asian Games.
On the 5th, the Speaker's office announced that Woo will visit China until the 9th. Speaker Woo plans to hold a series of meetings with top Chinese officials, including Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC). Through this visit to China, Speaker Woo aims to strengthen national interest diplomacy by promoting economic cooperation and expanding the entry of Korean companies into China, as well as to restore South Korea's international credibility, which has been destabilized due to the martial law situation.
Attention is also focused on whether Speaker Woo will be able to meet President Xi Jinping during this visit.

View original imageDuring this visit, Speaker Woo plans to discuss support for the successful hosting of the ‘2025 APEC Gyeongju’ scheduled for October this year, China’s constructive role in the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, preservation and management of independence movement historical sites in China, and the expansion of human and cultural exchanges.
Speaker Woo will attend the opening ceremony of the 2025 Harbin Winter Asian Games. Through official luncheons and the opening ceremony, he plans to meet with high-ranking officials from various Asian countries including Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Thailand, Brunei, Kazakhstan, and Vietnam, as well as Thomas Bach, President of the IOC, to discuss economic cooperation and parliamentary exchange measures.
Additionally, Speaker Woo plans to visit anti-Japanese historical sites such as the Ahn Jung-geun Memorial Hall and Zhaolin Park in China to explore cooperation measures for the preservation of anti-Japanese heritage sites and the excavation of remains on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation. He will request active cooperation from the Chinese government for the renovation of related facilities and the excavation and repatriation of the remains of independence activists including Ahn Jung-geun.
