Spouse Maternity Leave for Local Government Employees Extended from 10 to 20 Days
Amendment to the 'Local Government Officials Service Regulations' Approved by Cabinet
To Take Effect from the 11th... Increased Number of Times Paternity Leave Can Be Split
The paternity leave for spouses of local government officials will be extended from the current 10 days to 20 days. In cases of premature birth, the paternity leave will be extended from the current 90 days to 100 days, adding an additional 10 days.
On the 4th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that the amendment to the 'Local Government Officials Service Regulations' containing these details was approved at the Cabinet meeting and will be implemented starting from the 11th.
First, when the spouse of a government official gives birth, the period of 'spouse paternity leave' will be extended. Until now, 10 days were granted, but in the future, up to 20 days can be used. For multiple births such as twins, up to 25 days are allowed.
The usage period and the number of times the spouse paternity leave can be divided will also increase. Currently, spouse paternity leave can be used once (twice for multiple births) within 90 days (120 days for multiple births) from the date of birth, but according to the revised regulations, it can be divided into three times (five times for multiple births) within 120 days (150 days for multiple births) from the date of birth.
Additionally, if a premature infant is born before 37 weeks of pregnancy or a newborn weighing less than 2500g at birth is admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit within one day, the paternity leave period will be extended from the current 90 days to 100 days. However, to use the additional paternity leave, the official must apply to their affiliated institution by attaching proof documents that can verify the premature birth and neonatal intensive care unit admission records at least 7 days before the scheduled end date of the paternity leave.
