30s Male Importing and Cultivating Marijuana in Thailand Sentenced to Prison with Probation
A man in his 30s who secretly brought marijuana seeds from Thailand and cultivated them at his home was sentenced to a suspended prison term.
According to the legal community on the 1st, the 11th Criminal Division of the Seoul Eastern District Court (Presiding Judges Kang Min-ho and Lee Yoon-jae) sentenced Mr. A, who was tried for violating the Narcotics Control Act, to 2 years and 6 months in prison with a 4-year suspension.
Mr. A was prosecuted for planting and cultivating five marijuana seeds brought from Thailand at an officetel in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, where he resided, on February 22 of last year.
It was also investigated that Mr. A entered the country carrying two liquid marijuana cartridges purchased in Thailand and inhaled marijuana about 11 times.

The court stated the reasons for sentencing, saying, "Considering that the defendant admitted to the crime, has no prior record of punishment in Korea, and imported and cultivated marijuana for personal smoking purposes without intent to distribute through sales or other means."
