On this day, Mayor Lee Jangwoo of Daejeon and senior city officials visited the joint memorial altar to pay their respects.
Mayor Lee said, "It is even more heartbreaking because there are many victims from entire families. I extend my deepest condolences to all the victims and their bereaved families," adding, "I also send my sympathy and comfort to the people of Gwangju and Jeonnam."
Meanwhile, during the mourning period, the city plans to postpone or scale down various festivals and events scheduled to be held, and will focus all efforts on safety inspections.
