"Life is Annoying, Please Put Me in Jail"…60-Year-Old Man Sentenced for False Police Report
Charge of Obstruction of Official Duties by Abuse of Authority
A man in his 60s who repeatedly made false reports to the police, saying "Put me in jail, I’m going to kill several people who have committed crimes," was sentenced to prison.
On the 28th, Kim Bora, presiding judge of Criminal Division 13 at the Seoul Northern District Court, announced that A (63), who was indicted for obstruction of official duties by deception, was sentenced to 8 months in prison.
A was intoxicated when he made a false report to the 112 emergency call center, saying, "I’m going to kill several people who have committed crimes. Life is frustrating, so put me in jail," causing four patrol cars and eight police officers from the Dobong Police Station in Seoul to be dispatched to the scene.
At the time, A told the responding officers, "Why are there four police cars coming? Isn’t this a waste of tax money?" and "I don’t remember because I was drunk when I made the call," and sent the officers away. Then, 30 minutes later, A called the police again and made another false report, saying, "Put me in jail for obstructing official duties. It’s unfair to die alone, so I’m going to kill several people."

The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "By making false 112 calls, he caused multiple police officers to be dispatched to the scene, obstructing the officials’ duties and causing considerable waste of public authority," and "He committed this offense again during the probation period for a similar crime."
