74.8% Support Immediate Resignation or Impeachment of Yoon
Regarding President Yoon Seok-yeol's declaration of martial law on the 3rd, 7 out of 10 citizens expressed the opinion that he should immediately resign or be impeached. A significant portion of the public suffered from anxiety and other distress due to the midnight martial law, and some said the suffering continues.
According to a public opinion poll released on the 12th by Realmeter (commissioned by Energy Economy Newspaper, conducted on the 11th with 507 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide using RDD wireless 97%, wired 3% automated response method, with a response rate of 7.6%), 74.8% of respondents said President Yoon should immediately step down either by resignation or impeachment. Only 16.2% agreed with the 'orderly resignation' advocated by the People Power Party.
Regarding political orientation, among conservative respondents who strongly supported President Yoon and the People Power Party, 43.0% expressed the opinion that he should immediately resign or be impeached. The opinion supporting an orderly resignation was 33.3%.
There was also a survey result showing that the public is experiencing trauma after the martial law. During the midnight martial law on the 3rd, martial law troops forcibly entered the National Assembly. Citizens watched the situation live on broadcasts and other media. Confusion has continued with the possibility of a second martial law and the rejection of President Yoon's impeachment.
In this regard, 66.2% of respondents said they experienced trauma due to this incident. Only 27.3% said they did not experience trauma. A significant number said the suffering continues. 40.0% of all respondents said the suffering has continued even after the martial law. 26.2% said they suffered immediately after but have since recovered.
