Boryeong 'Nokdo Haegadeuk Village Table' Captivates National Assembly's Taste Buds
Wild-caught giant mussels and seaweed from Nokdo, an island village in Boryeong, Chungnam, will be served at the National Assembly cafeteria.
The city of Boryeong announced on the 5th that the "Nokdo Hae Gadeuk Maeul Bapsang," a Nokdo specialty menu, will be sold at the National Assembly Communication Center until the 7th.
The city is promoting a specialized island project in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to boost island residents' income and revitalize the village.
The city will present a variety of village table set menus using seasonal seafood, including their specialty giant mussels.
In addition, a photo exhibition of Nokdo by photographer Kim Namyong, featuring the landscapes and local residents of Nokdo, as well as sea creature coloring works created by children from the National Assembly No. 2 Daycare Center, will also be on display.
Mayor Kim Dongil said, "The wild-caught mussels from Nokdo are as large as an adult woman's palm and have excellent market value," adding, "We will continue to promote and support the sustainable growth of island income projects through specialized island initiatives, including marketing and market development."
Meanwhile, Boryeong is currently carrying out specialized projects on four islands: Wonsan 2-ri, Sapsido, Hodo, and Nokdo. As part of these efforts, Sapsido will hold the 'Sulttung Market' for local agricultural and seafood sales in November, and Hodo will run a pilot 'Healing Station' project.
