Operation on Hyundai Motor Asan Plant to Pyeongtaek Port Section

Hyundai Motor Company’s first domestically produced hydrogen truck for vehicle transportation will be deployed at Pyeongtaek Port.

On the 29th, Hyundai announced that the first 'Xcient Hydrogen Electric Truck Car Transporter' will be deployed at Pyeongtaek Port. This is part of the 'Pyeongtaek Port Car Transporter (vehicle transport truck) Hydrogen Conversion Pilot Operation Project,' which replaces diesel car transporter vehicles currently operating around Pyeongtaek Port with hydrogen-based vehicles. Hyundai is carrying out this project in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Gyeonggi Province, Pyeongtaek City, Hyundai Glovis, and D&H Logistics.

Accordingly, starting next month, the Xcient hydrogen car transporter will transport overseas export vehicles on a round-trip route of approximately 40 km between Hyundai’s Asan plant and Pyeongtaek Port. Hyundai plans to expand supply and operations based on demonstration driving data.

Hyundai manufactured this vehicle based on the Xcient hydrogen electric truck 6×4 chassis cab model. It can load up to six vehicles simultaneously. The vehicle is equipped with a 350kW motor and a 5-speed automatic transmission, which is evaluated to have superior power performance compared to diesel vehicles of the same class. The hydrogen tank capacity totals 27 kgH2 (700bar × 4 units), providing a driving range of about 380 km per charge.

Hyundai expects that the supply and pilot operation of this vehicle will contribute to the expansion of hydrogen commercial vehicle adoption in Korea. In particular, by replacing diesel trucks, a major source of environmental pollution in port areas, with eco-friendly hydrogen electric trucks, it is expected to help decarbonize ports and improve air pollution.

A Hyundai official said, "We will actively promote the expansion of hydrogen electric truck adoption to revitalize eco-friendly logistics businesses."
