This demonstration was conducted at the Goheung Aviation Center in Jeollanam-do for about three weeks, using a large rotorcraft (helicopter) to carry out aircraft operation, traffic management, and vertiport operation.
LG Uplus, as the main operator of traffic management, verified not only the functions of the traffic management platform but also the construction of communication networks and traffic management operations essential for UAM operation. They conducted demonstrations of 18 scenarios including normal UAM operation and collision situations, and completed verification of a total of 43 items, including those required by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Prior to the demonstration, LG Uplus established LTE and 5G aerial communication networks in the Goheung area of Jeollanam-do, installed a self-developed integrated control information (CNSi) package on the helicopter to transmit real-time data, and supported real-time monitoring of the aircraft on the ground traffic management platform.
Additionally, to prepare for voice communication interruptions in the very high frequency (VHF) band of 30?300 MHz, LTE and 5G radios were used to enable voice communication between pilots and air traffic controllers.
GS Construction participated as the main operator of vertiport operations, developing and testing the performance of the vertiport operation system linked with LG Uplus’s traffic management platform.
Based on the results of the first phase demonstration, LG Uplus plans to review measures to provide a safe traffic experience at the time of UAM commercialization.
