According to industry sources on the 20th, last week Kwack visited imec, Europe's largest comprehensive semiconductor research and development institute located in Belgium, and met with key imec officials including CEO Luc Van den Hove to exchange views on the latest technologies and research and development (R&D) directions in the semiconductor field.
imec is Europe's largest non-profit comprehensive semiconductor research institute jointly established by Belgium, France, and the Netherlands, founded in 1984.
It operates as a consortium for joint technology development among industry, academia, and research institutes, with major universities in the EU (European Union) and leading semiconductor companies worldwide as members.
SK Hynix formed a strategic alliance with imec in 2007 during the Hynix Semiconductor era to jointly research and develop memory semiconductor process technology below 32 nm (nanometers), and has maintained a cooperative relationship since then.
Max Mirgoli, Vice President of Global Strategic Partnerships at imec, stated on his LinkedIn on the 18th, "imec is proud to have been a long-standing partner of SK Hynix," adding, "Forming partnerships based on friendship and trust is a fantastic thing."
Vice President Mirgoli also met with Kwack at the 'SEMICON Korea' event held in January this year at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
