"Electric Cars Swap Batteries Without Charging"... A New Path to Time Reduction Opens
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Approves 14 Regulatory Sandbox Cases Including Swap Battery Charging Service to Shorten Electric Vehicle Charging Time
A service that shortens charging time by directly swapping batteries instead of charging electric vehicles has opened the door for introduction.
On the 17th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it designated regulatory exemptions for a total of 14 mobility services through the 3rd Mobility Innovation Committee held in February and July this year.
The electric vehicle battery swap charging service is a service applied for by JM Wave, Hyundai·Kia Motors, and Pitin. The Ministry allowed the separation of ownership registration between the vehicle and the battery, granting such exemptions.
For the service that attaches LED/LCD advertising panels to motorcycle delivery boxes to broadcast advertisements (applied by The Better People and Gisend), conditions such as limiting screen brightness were imposed to ensure safety by not obstructing the driver's view.
The customized companion service for transportation-vulnerable people, which requires platform transportation business permits (applied by Sungil Rent-a-Car, Seorodolbom, Daon Companion Care, and SOS), uses specially modified vehicles to transport transportation-vulnerable individuals, and regulatory exemptions were granted considering the shortage of transportation means for these groups.
In particular, SOS's customized companion service for transportation-vulnerable people enhances mobility convenience by using patient carriers convertible to wheelchairs equipped with fixed devices equivalent to those in ambulances.
Additionally, the electric taxi service capable of wheelchair boarding (applied by Hyundai Motor Company) also received exemptions to ensure that transportation-vulnerable people enjoy equal mobility rights as non-vulnerable individuals.
The Korea Airports Corporation was allowed to verify the reliability of a security screening system based on artificial intelligence (AI) that detects hazardous items such as lighters and auxiliary batteries.
In the case of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, traffic card data, which can only be provided to public institutions, will be safely managed and opened to allow private sectors to access and analyze it.
The service that rents cargo trucks in case of delivery vehicle accidents or breakdowns (applied by Sungil Rent-a-Car) received exemptions to shorten downtime in transportation through rapid rental of private cargo trucks.
The platform service that rents used cars for long-term use (applied by Solver Sapiens) was granted exemptions to expand the allowable vehicle registration period from less than one year to less than two years, verifying safety related to system improvements.
