Goyang City Buddhist Temples Association Practices Sharing with 'Compassionate Briquette Distribution'
Delivered 10,000 Briquettes to Over 30 Underprivileged Households... Sharing 'Warmth of Heat'
Mayor Donghwan Lee: "May Care and Help for Neighbors Become Sparks of Happiness and Hope"
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang City is attending the 'Sharing Briquettes of Mercy' event and carrying briquettes.
Ahead of the winter season, the Buddhist community in Goyang Special City held the "Sharing Compassionate Briquettes" event to support heating for underprivileged groups during the cold season.
The Gyeonggi Goyang City Buddhist Temple Association (President Venerable Daedeok) practiced an act of compassion on the 10th by delivering briquettes to underprivileged groups in the area, including elderly living alone and single-parent families in Goyang Special City.
About 40 people participated in this "Sharing Compassionate Briquettes" event, including Lee Dong-hwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, Venerable Daedeok (Chief Monk of Gwangmyeongsa Temple), local temple monks, and volunteers.
The compassionate briquettes delivered to about 30 underprivileged households in the area totaled 10,000 pieces (worth approximately 10 million KRW), funded by donations from local temples and Buddhists.
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City, who participated in the event, said, "Due to global warming, this winter is expected to be colder, but there are still many neighbors around us worried about the heating costs for the coming winter. I am confident that if the citizens of Goyang Special City show interest and extend a helping hand to our neighbors in need with the Buddha's spirit of compassion, a great spark of happiness and hope will arise in our community."
