Gwangjin-gu Reduces Crime by Installing Spotlights on CCTV Cameras
30 Gobo Lights and 31 LED Emergency Bell Signboards Newly Installed
Budget of 62 Million Won Invested to Create Crime Prevention Environment and Ensure Residents' Safety
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has enhanced the safety of its residents by implementing Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) on local CCTV systems.
Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design is an environmental design approach that improves vulnerable areas such as dark alleys or places with few people to prevent crimes from occurring in advance. According to the district, as of September 2024, Gwangjin-gu operates 1,256 CCTV locations, and CPTED has been applied to 432 LED emergency bell signboards and 253 gobo lights.
This year, with a budget of 62 million KRW, 30 gobo lights and 31 LED emergency bell signboards were newly installed. Gobo lights are lighting facilities that project images and text onto the ground, brightly illuminating streets at night with excellent visibility. Together with the LED emergency bell signboards, they protect residents’ safety during nighttime walks.
The installation locations were selected by analyzing Seoul city big data and collaborating with the Gwangjin Police Station. Considerations included ▲crime-vulnerable areas ▲residential areas with frequent complaints ▲areas with incidents and accidents.
The district strengthens management through enhanced patrols and regular inspections in areas where CPTED is applied, and improves effectiveness and completeness through continuous monitoring.
Additionally, resident satisfaction and safety perception surveys are conducted, and feedback will be reflected to expand the initiative next year.
