Opposition's backlash against the prosecution investigation grows stronger
During the investigation into the preferential hiring allegations related to Thai Starjet, the prosecution named former President Moon Jae-in as a suspect. In response, former President Moon posted a video on his social media showing the back of himself looking at dark clouds. Supporters have been leaving encouraging comments on the video.
On the 3rd, former President Moon uploaded a video of about 15 seconds on his SNS with the caption "Tongdosa Buckwheat Field." In the video, Moon is seen alone holding a black umbrella, looking at a buckwheat field spread out under a cloudy sky.

The specific intent behind former President Moon posting the video has not been disclosed. However, there is analysis suggesting that it may carry an implicit meaning, as the prosecution has recently been conducting an all-out investigation into the preferential hiring allegations involving Moon’s former son-in-law and his family. This post is the first one uploaded after the prosecution’s investigation into Moon’s family became public through media reports.
Supporters of former President Moon responded to the video with comments such as, "I always support President Moon Jae-in. Although I feel angry and frustrated right now, Moon always took the right path," "It’s really disgusting how petty people are desperate to tarnish the President," "Those who mess with Moon will be the ones who fail, that’s a rule," and "The truth will eventually come out."
Earlier, on the 30th of last month, during the investigation into the 'preferential hiring' allegations involving Moon’s son-in-law Seo, the prosecution conducted a search of the Seoul residence of Moon’s daughter Dahye and named former President Moon as a suspect in bribery in the warrant. Seo was employed as an executive director at Thai Starjet, a Thai low-cost airline established by former lawmaker Lee Sang-jik after he became the chairman of the Small and Medium Business Corporation in 2018. Seo received over 200 million won in salary and relocation expenses to Thailand while working as an executive, which the prosecution views as a bribe to former President Moon. The prosecution is expected to investigate Dahye and the former presidential couple after analyzing the seized items from Dahye’s residence.
As the prosecution conducts a comprehensive investigation into former President Moon’s family, opposition parties are also intensifying their backlash. lawmakers from the Moon Jae-in administration’s Blue House have specifically refuted the allegations raised by the prosecution and some media, claiming that this investigation is a 'political crackdown' by the Yoon Suk-yeol administration. Regarding reports that First Lady Kim Jung-sook made suspicious money transactions with her daughter Dahye through an acquaintance, Representative Yoon stated, "The timing of the deposits from Mrs. Kim to her daughter was after 2022, following the end of the presidency, and is unrelated to the son-in-law’s employment in 2018," calling it a "typical 'ditch watch' report." He further explained, "At that time, conservative YouTubers surrounded Yangsan Pyeongsan Village, making it difficult for the presidential couple to go outside. So Mrs. Kim asked an acquaintance to run a kind of 'bank errand.'"

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon also urged former President Moon not to comply with the prosecution’s summons. On the 3rd, Governor Kim posted on his social media, "The intention of the Yoon administration is very obvious. It is a cruel scheme to humiliate a former president by putting him on the prosecution’s photo line." He added, "They leave the living power as a sanctuary and use petty tactics to divert the public’s attention. It inevitably reminds me of when former President Roh Moo-hyun was put on the photo line." Meanwhile, the People Power Party launched an offensive, emphasizing the need to investigate former President Moon. Supreme Council member Kim Jae-won said on SBS Radio, "Almost all evidence must have been secured," and added, "It is right to summon him quickly, detain him, and investigate."
