Invisible Dangers in Daily Life
Efforts to Ensure Citizen Safety Through Maintenance
Jinhae-gu of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is taking action to eliminate hazards for the safety of its residents.
To this end, the district office is working to remove everyday risks and ensure public safety in preparation for disasters by implementing the following projects: improvement of green spaces and maintenance of disaster-prone areas, dredging of Dongcheon and Sosa-dongcheon streams, and improvement of the school commuting environment for Dongbu Elementary School and Pung-ho Elementary School.
First, the district is carrying out projects to improve green spaces and maintain disaster-prone areas within its jurisdiction. It will repair cracks in the retaining wall in the green belt of Jaeun District near Naengcheon Elementary School, reinforce drainage facilities behind apartments, and plant trees in the green area.
In addition, a detailed inspection of the slopes in the landscaped green areas of Dudong, Yongwon-dong, and Namyang-dong will be conducted, and retaining walls will be installed or repaired to eliminate potential hazards in park green spaces.
Furthermore, sediment dredging and riverbed maintenance will be carried out in Dongcheon (around 949 Bukbu-dong), and soil dredging, drop structure, and stone embankment restoration will be conducted in Sosa-dongcheon (around 210 Sosa-dong) to prevent river flooding and damage to farmland caused by inundation.
In addition, a special grant tax budget of 900 million KRW has been secured for the second half of 2024 to carry out improvement projects for the school routes of Dongbu Elementary School and Pung-ho Elementary School. The district plans to do its utmost to create a safe commuting environment for children and parents by improving sidewalks (sidewalk block repairs, road resurfacing) and maintaining and installing traffic safety facilities.
Jung Hyunseop, head of Jinhae-gu District Office, said, "We will do our utmost to secure the safety of our residents by eliminating hidden risks in everyday life in advance."
