Gwanak Youth Center 2nd Steering Committee Chair Appointed as Honorary Gwanak Youth Center Director
Serving as a Communication Channel Representing Youth Voices... Expected to Play a Central Role in Gwanak, the Youth Capital
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) newly appointed the 2nd Gwanak Youth Chief on the 21st, who will work hard to discover policies reflecting the voices of youth.
The Gwanak Youth Center is an integrated youth support platform established by the district in April last year, spanning from the basement first floor to the seventh floor above ground, aimed at creating a “special youth city where young people nurture their dreams.”
To support the independent and autonomous operation of the Gwanak Youth Center, the district appoints the chairman of the Gwanak Youth Center Steering Committee, who is directly elected by the youth, as the “Honorary Gwanak Youth Chief.”
Park Hee-sun, the youth chief appointed as the 2nd Gwanak Youth Chief, said, “In April this year, the district’s urban brand identity (BI) was changed to ‘Youth Capital Gwanak,’ and I could feel the district’s sincere commitment to youth policies throughout the streets.” She added, “The Gwanak Youth Center will also become the core of ‘Korea’s Youth Capital Gwanak’ and strive to enhance the rights of local youth.”
The Gwanak Youth Chief plays the role of a ‘communication channel’ representing the voices of youth through participation in major youth projects, discovering and proposing youth policies, and promoting youth projects and the Youth Center. They also work hard to operate the Youth Center with strong driving force.
The Gwanak Youth Center Steering Committee, which produces the Youth Chief, is a public-private governance body formed to expand youth participation in policy. It consists of local youth activists who are highly interested in improving the quality of life for youth and youth policies, divided into the Planning and Public Relations Division and the Space Operation Division. Each division independently establishes the role, vision, operational plans, and development directions of the Youth Center and participates in various decision-making processes.
In June, a joint workshop was held with the operating committee members of ‘Cheongchun Building,’ a representative youth space in Geumcheon-gu, where they discussed the realities of local youth, shared policies, and expanded their human network as youth governance bodies.
Meanwhile, in April, the district renewed its urban brand identity (BI) to ‘Korea’s Youth Capital Gwanak,’ reaffirming its commitment to creating a city where youth are happy. The new urban brand reflects the district’s characteristics as having the highest youth population ratio nationwide and the residents’ opinion selecting it as a ‘vibrant city of youth.’
