"Give Me More Alcohol"... 40s Man Fined 6 Million Won for Drunken Disturbance on Flight
"Other Passengers Also Expressed Anxiety"
A man in his 40s who caused a disturbance on a flight by demanding "more alcohol" was sentenced to a fine.
According to Yonhap News on the 20th, Judge Kim Saetbyeol of the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 11 sentenced A (45), who was indicted for violating the Aviation Security Act, to a fine of 6 million won.
A was charged with causing a disturbance for 40 minutes on a Korean Air passenger plane heading from Las Vegas, USA, to Incheon on April 17 last year. He, intoxicated, demanded more wine from the flight attendants, saying, "Give me more wine," and questioned, "Why aren't you giving me alcohol?"
When a flight attendant showed records of previously serving alcohol, A shouted, "When did I drink this much wine?" and "Who served me?"
He also entered the flight attendants' workspace on the plane, the 'galley,' and protested, saying, "Did I cause a disturbance on board?" and "I just asked for one more drink."
In court, A claimed, "I asked the flight attendants for more alcohol, but I did not enter the galley," and "My behavior was not disruptive enough to make the operation of the aircraft impossible."
However, the court ruled that A's actions at the time constituted a disturbance under the relevant law and found him guilty. Judge Kim stated, "Witnesses including flight attendants and passengers gave similar testimonies that 'A, while intoxicated, demanded more wine and caused a disturbance by entering the galley.' Other passengers expressed anxiety at the time, and flight attendants were unable to properly perform tasks such as safety checks before landing," the judge said.
