Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, “We Will Address the Ultra-Low Birthrate Crisis and Women’s Career Interruption Issues Together”
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) is set to actively launch policies in the second half of this year to support women with career interruptions and parents raising children.
The district will conduct a series of four special lectures in September on artificial intelligence, which will serve as a job solution for women with career breaks. Experts in various fields such as smart farms and drones will lead the lectures to help motivate and set goals for future careers.
Additionally, the district operates a dedicated desk for women with career interruptions at the Mapo Job Center, which opened on the first floor of Mapo-gu Office in May last year. At this desk, professional counselors provide one-on-one tailored consultations and connect clients to related organizations such as the Mapo Employment Welfare Support Center for education and employment or entrepreneurship support.
Moreover, any woman with a career break can take free lifelong learning programs and vocational skill enhancement courses through 11 Mapo neighborhood learning centers, including digital drawing and eco-friendly product making.
The Mapo Women’s Companion Center is also actively conducting employment training for women. The district stated that instructors trained through employment education for women with career interruptions are actively working in local daycare centers and senior centers.
Furthermore, the district plans to operate a ‘Babysitter House’ and a ‘Mom Cafe’.
Unlike most daycare centers and kindergartens where children leave before 7 p.m., the Mapo-style childcare facility, Babysitter House, will set usage hours to allow children to be cared for during late hours.
The ‘Mom Cafe,’ scheduled to open in December, is a space that materializes an online mom cafe where caregivers can communicate, obtain information, and relieve stress.
The district plans to equip this space with various convenience facilities such as an entertainment room, shared kitchen, and reading area, creating a place where caregivers, who are prone to parenting-related depression, can laugh, communicate, and enjoy healthy healing together.
