"Give Back Half of the Date Expenses"…Man Fined 5 Million Won for Stalking Ex-Girlfriend
Ultimately extorted 2 million won from the victim
Also charged with stalking the residence 6 times
A man in his 30s who threatened and stalked his ex-girlfriend by demanding 'half of the dating expenses' was sentenced to a fine.
On the 18th, Yonhap News reported that the Cheongju District Court Criminal Division 3 (Presiding Judge Kim Kyung-chan) sentenced A (33), who was indicted for blackmail and violating the Stalking Crime Punishment Act, to a fine of 5 million won.
A is accused of sending messages threatening his ex-girlfriend B last September, saying, "If you don't give me half of the dating expenses, I will go to your company and hold a one-person protest."
When B did not send the money, A actually went to her company to demand settlement and eventually extorted 2 million won from B. He is also accused of stalking B repeatedly six times, including waiting at her residence.
During the trial, A denied the charges, claiming it was a 'simple dispute between lovers,' but the court did not accept this. The court stated, "Although the victim has no legal obligation to settle the expenses incurred during the relationship, the defendant continuously demanded money and visited the victim, so this cannot be considered a legitimate act."
