‘Study and Healing in One Place’ Mokwon University Opens Smart Convergence Lounge
Mokwon University announced on the 6th that it has established and opened the ‘Mokwon Smart Convergence Lounge’ in the Central Library through a library remodeling project.
The Mokwon Smart Convergence Lounge was created reflecting the characteristics of the ‘MZ Generation,’ who are familiar with digital environments, including students’ space utilization trends and their preference for learning methods using smart devices.

First, the university transformed the reading room into an open study space with charging facilities installed at every seat. Unlike the traditional closed reading rooms, the open study space is a caf?-style learning area composed of multi-person tables and curved tables where students can study freely in an open atmosphere.
They also arranged ‘1-person carrels (individual reading rooms)’ equipped with personal lighting for focused study. Additionally, group study rooms were furnished with smart TVs and boards capable of presentations, enabling easy sharing of materials and collaboration. Soundproofing facilities were fully installed to create an environment where discussions can be held without noise concerns.
Bookshelves along the stairways, which serve as student passageways, were stocked with a variety of books including bestsellers, allowing students to easily access books as they pass by. This was intended not only to store books but also to actively encourage reading.
The Central Library also features spaces where students can relax and enjoy various activities. Representative examples include areas where students can watch online video streaming services (OTT) or digital video discs (DVDs), and the Space M music experience room, where they can play digital pianos or listen to music by placing records (LPs) on turntables.
Mokwon University plans to foster a familiar library culture by linking and operating extracurricular programs in conjunction with the establishment of the Mokwon Smart Convergence Lounge.
In addition to ongoing programs such as Library Likes, Book Writing Projects, Red Mailbox, and Reading Discussion Sharing, the university operates programs including foreign international student QR space experiences, electronic information fairs, noon concerts, Reading Golden Bell, author lectures, and learning contests utilizing the Smart Convergence Lounge.
