Operations Committee Actively Cooperates in City Administration for Improving Public Services and Stabilizing Livelihoods
The Seoul Metropolitan Council's Steering Committee (Chairperson Lee Suk-ja, People Power Party·Seocho 2) held a 'Meeting with Seoul Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs Kim Byung-min and Chief Secretary Kwak Jong-bin' on July 31 at the Steering Committee meeting room.
This meeting was organized to promote communication and cooperation regarding Seoul city administration following the formation of the 11th Council's second half, and to discuss the operational direction of the Seoul Metropolitan Council.
Attending the meeting were Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs Kim Byung-min, Chief Secretary Kwak Jong-bin, other Seoul city officials, and eight steering committee members including Park Seok, Park Seong-yeon, Yoon Young-hee, Lee Sang-wook, Lee Sae-nal, Lee Seong-bae, and Kim Seong-jun.
Chairperson Lee Suk-ja stated during the meeting, “Although the Seoul City Personnel Hearing Ordinance was enacted last October, the executive branch seems negative about expanding personnel hearings beyond the existing six public enterprises to include 18 affiliated institutions,” and requested the Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs and others to “strengthen the verification of professionalism and morality of public office candidates through personnel hearings, and as an effective check on the executive branch, make efforts to promptly expand the scope of institutions subject to personnel hearings.”
Following this, Chairperson Lee and the steering committee members urged, “To not only monitor and check Seoul city administration but also to promote communication and cooperation, please refrain from frequent absence requests by public officials during council sessions and strive to actively communicate and serve as a bridge.”
They also said, “For the improvement of citizen services and stabilization of livelihoods, our council will cooperate actively in areas where collaboration with city administration is needed.”
In response, Deputy Mayor Kim Byung-min replied, “We will actively review the requested matters and sincerely communicate more frequently with the council and cooperate to provide the best services to citizens.”

Chairperson Lee Suk-ja concluded the meeting by saying, “The Steering Committee will work together with the members to resolve current issues such as the independence of council personnel authority and actively support all council members' legislative activities.”
