Choi Saebin and Jeon Hayoung Face Off for Semifinal Spot
Yoon Ji-soo (Seoul Metropolitan Government), the leading female sabre fencer of South Korea, failed to advance to the quarterfinals in the individual event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. On the 29th (local time), she lost 9-15 to Manon Apithy (France) in the round of 16 of the women's sabre individual event held at the Grand Palais in Paris, France.
Apithy is a bronze medalist from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Backed by overwhelming support from the home crowd, she took 4 points in a row from the start. Yoon Ji-soo tried to counterattack with precise techniques but was unable to reverse the momentum.
Yoon Ji-soo is the daughter of Yoon Hak-gil, a KBO talent donation committee member who was a former ace for the professional baseball team Lotte Giants. She won the gold medal in this event at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games held last year. She also has experience winning a medal at the Olympics, having earned a bronze medal in the team event at the 2020 Tokyo Games. However, she did not advance beyond the round of 16 in the individual event at that time either.
