Graduate student who ate 'Daema Jelly' and shared it with acquaintances... Prosecutors demand 3 years imprisonment
Allegations of Violating the Narcotics Control Act
The prosecution has requested a three-year prison sentence for a man in his 20s who consumed jelly containing cannabis ingredients and distributed it to acquaintances.
On the 24th, the prosecution requested a three-year prison sentence for graduate student Oh Mo (26), who was indicted on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act (cannabis), at a trial presided over by Judge Lee Ho-dong of the Criminal Division 3 at the Seoul Eastern District Court.
According to the prosecution, Oh is accused of receiving 20 cannabis-infused jellies from an unidentified foreign man near a club in Mapo-gu, Seoul, around December last year, consuming some of them, and providing some to acquaintances in March this year.
The prosecution stated, "The amount of cannabis jelly provided is not insignificant, and a colleague who received it from the defendant spread it to a third party," adding, "There are also suspicious circumstances of evidence tampering, such as the defendant claiming to have lost his mobile phone after surrendering."
On the day, Oh's defense attorney said, "The defendant admits all the charges," but argued, "Although there is no excuse, it was not malicious or fabricated." They added, "After surrendering and while in detention, he regained his composure, and we ask for leniency so that no disqualifications remain for the defendant who must step into society."
Oh said, "I was drinking at the time, so my judgment was impaired, and the foreigner said it was tasty and gave it to me, so I accepted it," adding, "I apologize for causing trouble. I will never commit such a mistake again."
