The Byeollae Line (Amsa~Byeollae) is a project to construct 6 stations over a total distance of 12.9 km from Amsa Station in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, on the existing Line 8 to Byeollae Station in Namyangju. A total project cost of 1.3916 trillion KRW will be invested, with Gyeonggi Province responsible for sections 3 to 6 and Seoul City handling sections 1 and 2. Construction began in 2016, and the line is opening after 8 years.
The Byeollae Line trains will operate with 6-car formations, running every 4 minutes and 50 seconds during rush hours and about every 8 minutes during off-peak times. The maximum speed is 80 km/h.
Gyeonggi Province, in cooperation with Seoul City, began comprehensive railway test operations in July last year and has completed various tests by construction type, preliminary inspections, facility certification tests, and trial commercial operations. Currently, only administrative procedures such as comprehensive reporting and approval for changes in the safety management system remain before opening.
Park Jae-young, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Railroad, Port, and Logistics Bureau, stated, "With the opening of the Byeollae Line, it will take 27 minutes from Byeollae to Jamsil, and transfers will be possible to Line 2 (Jamsil), Line 3 (Garak Market), Line 5 (Cheonho), Line 9 (Seokchon), Suin-Bundang Line (Bokjeong, Moran), Gyeongui-Jungang Line (Guri), and Gyeongchun Line (Byeollae). This will greatly improve transportation conditions in the northeastern region of Gyeonggi and shorten commuting times, serving as a strong foundation for regional development. We will prioritize safety and do our best to open the line on schedule," he said.
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province has established the ‘Gyeonggi Province Safe Station (4S Station)’ standards to create subway stations that anyone can use with peace of mind, applying these standards starting with the Byeollae Line. The Safe Station standards will be applied to all subway lines implemented by Gyeonggi Province in the future.
