Gyeonggi-do Operates Nation's First 'Public Drug Addiction Treatment Center' with 13 Beds
Gyeonggi Province will operate dedicated hospital beds for drug addiction treatment, becoming the 'first in the nation' to do so.
On the 11th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it has opened and started operating the 'Public Drug Addiction Treatment Center' at the Gyeonggi Provincial Mental Hospital in Yongin, with a total of 13 beds, including 3 stabilization rooms and 10 general beds.
The center offers both outpatient and inpatient treatment. Before treatment, drug addiction is first assessed and counseled, after which treatment methods such as emergency detoxification, outpatient, or inpatient care are determined.
The center particularly supports blocking the reuse of drugs caused by withdrawal symptoms after cessation through self-help groups following treatment. Additionally, it promotes patient case management and linkage services with related community organizations. To this end, a total of 17 specialists, including one psychiatrist, have been hired to carry out full-scale operations.
Yoo Young-cheol, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Health and Wellness Bureau, stated, "At a time when it is necessary to shift from punishment-focused drug crime policies to community rehabilitation and treatment, we will do our best to ensure that the Gyeonggi Drug Addiction Treatment Center plays a central role."
