Park Jongwoo, the mayor of Geoje, Gyeongnam, who is accused of violating the Public Official Election Act, headed to the Changwon branch of the Busan High Court on the afternoon of the 28th to attend the appellate trial's final hearing.
Previously, Mayor Park was put on trial on charges of providing 13 million won to National Assembly staff member B through promotion team member A on three occasions, in exchange for recruiting party membership applications, providing party member lists, and promoting on social networking services (SNS) ahead of the 2022 nationwide local elections.
The first trial court sentenced Mayor Park to six months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence in November last year, and Mayor Park appealed on the grounds of factual misunderstanding and misinterpretation of the law.
