SK C&C Partners with Japan's Carbonix to Boost Carbon Emission Trading
SK C&C announced on the 25th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Carbonix, which operates a carbon credit exchange in Japan, to cooperate in promoting carbon neutrality and activating carbon credit trading.
This agreement was pursued to activate carbon reduction capabilities and emission permit issuance and trading services, and to actively expand the global carbon market. The two companies will explore ways to interconnect their respective voluntary carbon credit platforms. Subsequently, they agreed to share their markets and work together to expand the scale of the carbon trading market not only in Japan and Korea but also across the Asian market.
Furthermore, Korean and Japanese companies will be able to freely purchase and trade overseas carbon credits they need on both companies' platforms.
Carbonix, established last year in Tokyo, is the leading company in Japan's carbon credit trading market. Currently, about 1,000 companies use the voluntary carbon credit platform operated by Carbonix, which also supports global trading.
SK C&C also owns 'Centero,' a carbon certification and trading platform it developed to activate the voluntary carbon market. Centero has attracted about 20 domestic companies as members, ranging from large corporations to startups.
