Jeju Coast Guard to Conduct 'Special Crackdown on Drunk Sailing' Starting Next Month
The Jeju Coast Guard will conduct a special crackdown on drunk sailing from July 1 to August 31, as the number of tourists enjoying leisure activities such as fishing boats is expected to increase during the vacation season, in order to prevent marine accident risk factors in advance.

According to the Jeju Coast Guard on the 21st, this special crackdown will target all vessels including fishing boats, water leisure equipment, and ferries, and anyone with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.03% or higher may be punished according to relevant laws.
In the past three years (2021?2023), a total of 10 vessels were caught for drunk sailing in the jurisdiction, and since 5 cases (50%) occurred during the summer months of June to August, active enforcement will be carried out to prevent accidents caused by drunk sailing with heightened awareness.
A Jeju Coast Guard official said, “Drunk sailing can easily occur due to the perception that no one is watching at sea, but a momentary mistake can lead to irreversible accidents, so special caution is required.”
